Fear of 36
Well I'm 36 years old. For many this sounds young, for some maybe a little old. I feel like I've only got 30 or so good, solid, working years left in me. Yes I know, only 3o sounds like a lot left but some things take a long while to ferment. Rome wasn't built in a day. I feel such an anxiety, such a sense of urgency to move forward at break neck speed. I need to move a head, provide for my family, become something I can be proud of, to contribute a lasting legacy to society. Not everyone thinks that way I'm sure. What were Walt Disney, Vince Lombardi, Abraham Lincoln thinking when they were my age? Was there an urgency? Was there a maniacal spinning of the brain as they worked towards their purpose. Surely they didn't fall into their chosen professions and create such success by accident. I know Disney wasn't all that great working on the railways. Lombardi was a great Packers coach but he didn't fair as well in Washington. Lincoln struggled in politics before he was elected president. He did some good though.
What do I need? I need to make one good decision. And when that one's made, I need to find and make another, then rinse and repeat as Head and Shoulders says.
So what is my one good decision?

Ambition LIG
Ambition is a like a wild stallion. You can jump on but hold on tight cause it'll take you for a ride. So do I break the animal and tame it or do I let it be free and unpredictable. The answer so far has been yes. As with life, everything in moderation... pretty-much everything.
Maybe its the fact that graduation is around the corner or that I've recently become a husband (2006) and now a Father (December). Now I want grad school, I want to bench $300 lbs. I want to dunk for the first time in probably 16 years.
Pie in the sky and all, I've got to keep my feet on the ground and be a good husband and father while I'm at it. Sometimes I fear finishing objectives may leave me with less to accomplish and therefore slow down the efforts towards progress. Can anyone relate?
82 WO
So I've been working out at work lately. I have a few sets of dumbbells there (weights not co-workers) and a yoga ball. I've been sporadic with it for a year or so but now I feel I've gotten back into it.
Specifically, I've been working on push-ups. Remember the 8th grade when Coach so and so would invoke his inner drill sergeant and have you drop and give him twenty? Well I believe that was the last time I had a decent push-up. In the last couple weeks I've been going at it. I started with a measly five and then ten, then twenty. Today I managed 82. This is cumulative mind you, over the course of probably three hours. I did a couple sets of twenty, a couple sets of fifteen and a set of ten. Then I tried two more and i felt sharp, deep pains in my chest muscles (yes I have them now). I figured that was a good place to stop. 82 is my personal best. I bested yesterday's run of 65 and last week's 51 1/2. Tomorrow I'll take the day off and work on lower body then Friday (29th) I'll go for 100. Wish me luck.
By the way I'll take tips and suggestions. This is just what's working for me right now.
Intro
Hello All,
This is my first blog here so I'll give a bit of introduction.
Im a husband, father, carnivore, soon to be grad student in San Diego. I like sushi, steak and a fine beer (no domestic please). I'm a big fan of logic and reason but I understand this concept may be subjective. I'm a conservative Christian with two strong ears. Perhaps more a libertarian than a republican at this point.
I can't say I've found my writing niche so what I'll do is label each title with an idea of the subject matter in each blog.
FAM=Family
SCH=School
WO= work out
DIS=Disney
NWS=News
LIG=Life in general
I'll come up with other indicators in the future.
